SYLLABUS

COURSE OVERVIEW: Welcome to Hotel Management Operations a Bachelor Level course in the curriculum for the Degree, Bachelor of Science in Hotel/Restaurant/Food Service Management. I am pleased to instruct you in this course, which will be a foundational course for the remainder of your studies in the bachelor program.

This is an exciting time for the lodging industry, a time that has recently seen unprecedented growth, and unprecedented opportunities for advancement. With future projected growth being highly favorable, both domestic and internationally, the outlook for someone eyeing the field of hotel management is indeed bright.

This is an exciting course about the hotel industry, a course that explores advanced topics in a strategic management theory concept. But as this course and HTL 300 point out, hotel management does not have to such a complex industry. My approach is to try to approach management with an easy to understand concept.

Most in the hotel management field will agree that the industry is always in a constant state of change. This global world can be good for a hotel manager who understands how to use this constant of change to see the future, and thus to develop a good economic plan for the long term health of his/her hotel. Basically what we will focus on in this course is: how to further develop what you learned, or should have learned in HTL 200.

I know you will enjoy this course. Please learn as much as you can as you progress through it, as it does lay down a solid foundation for the rest of the curriculum. It is my pleasure to have you in the course.
