This course provides fundamental concepts in general chemistry, organic and biochemistry. This course is primarily designed for students pursing health care degree or general education curriculum. The course mainly focuses upon the atoms, elements, micro-molecules, and major macro-molecules and chemical properties of living systems. Primary topics include the principles of atomic theory, physical states of substance, concentration and pH, chemical reaction equilibrium and balance, organic molecules and functional groups, the structures, properties and functions of amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. The mechanisms of the major macro-molecules metabolism and enzyme kinetics are also addressed.
