Introduction: The Call to Understanding
My academic and professional journey has been driven by a singular goal: to deeply understand the human condition and use that understanding to heal, counsel, and instruct through Holy Scripture. I am guided by Proverbs 20:5: “The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” Drawing out these deep waters requires a robust foundation capable of navigating the intersections of physical suffering, psychological distress, and spiritual brokenness. Rather than following a linear path, I have pursued an interdisciplinary approach, combining human service practice, psychological theory, and biblical principles. This foundation serves as the core catalyst for my work as an author, publisher, and Family/Relationship Strategy Coach. As I advance my academic journey, my goal is to pursue intellectual and spiritual growth that will directly elevate the depth, authority, and theological substance of my published work.
The Counseling Foundation: Lessons from the Trenches of Care
The bedrock of my understanding began in social work and counseling as a Family/Relationship Strategy Coach. While working with individuals and families, I recognized that true healing extends beyond secular interventions. Individuals facing trauma routinely experience acute emotional and spiritual distress that traditional methods alone cannot fully address. This work demonstrated how physical ailments fracture emotional stability and how spiritual anxiety can manifest physically. Serving in social services developed my observational skills and deep empathy while sparking a strong intellectual curiosity. I realized that to fully serve those in distress, I needed a structured understanding of the behavioral and cognitive mechanics underlying human experience.
The Academic Pivot: Integrating Christian Counseling and Advanced Research
To better understand internal suffering, I pursued doctoral studies in Christian Counseling. This enabled me to ground my experience in established theoretical frameworks, exploring personality development, cognitive patterns, and systemic mental health structures. Recognizing that authoritative scholarship requires a strong command of research methodologies, I committed myself to rigorous doctoral-level education. Through this advanced study, I refined my abilities in qualitative and quantitative research, theoretical evaluation, and academic writing. These programs taught me to transform complex concepts into structured insights, evaluating how institutional and environmental systems impact individual well-being.
The Highest Synthesis: Biblical Principles and the Ministry of Restoration
While secular psychology describes human behavior, it often falls short of offering a permanent solution for the spiritual void at the center of human suffering. True counseling is a ministry of soul-restoration submitted to the Word of God, as anchored in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. In the Problem of Pain, C.S. Lewis observed, “Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also harder to bear.” Recognizing this weight, I have dedicated my work as a writer and publisher to creating literature that addresses these deep wounds. Advanced scholarship enables me to bridge research and spiritual experience, cultivating the authority needed to translate scriptural truths into faith-based guidance.
Conclusion: A Vision for Future Scholarship
My academic journey represents a deliberate progression: social work and Marriage & Family Therapy provided direct experience with human suffering, doctoral studies in Christian Counseling provided empirical research tools, and biblical principles provided the foundational framework for healing. I am prepared to bring an interdisciplinary perspective to advanced academic pursuits. I look forward to engaging in meaningful, Scripture-saturated research and producing authoritative literature that serves the global faith community.
Best regards,
