Welcome to EDU 952, Teaching Strategies for Adult Learners. I am pleased to instruct you in this course, which will be a core course for the Doctorate in Education.
This is an exciting course that will examine the theoretical and practical components of instructional delivery in various educational settings. It will also provide adult educators with an overview of various classroom management strategies, test construction, measurement, and collaborative learning techniques.
I know you will enjoy this course. Please learn as much as you can as you progress through it, as it does lay down a solid foundation for the rest of the curriculum. It is my pleasure to have you in this course.
This
is a 4-semester hour course. This course is allotted 15 weeks
of time. You must complete all of the requirements for the course
successfully by the end of the 15-week period. The first day of
week one will begin the day that you register for the course, or
the day in which you notify me that your textbooks have arrived
and you are ready to begin your studies. Please be aware of the
time frame. It is rare that extensions of time are permitted, unless
you have good justification. Upon successful completion of this
course, you will be awarded 4 semester hours of credit.
There
is one (1) required textbook for this course.

There is a mid term exam at week eight and a final exam required at week fifteen for this course. The final exam must be taken by the end of the fifteenth week in the course.
When you are ready to take an exam you must send me an email requesting the exam. Once you have received the exam, you will have 48 hours to complete it. When you have completed the exam, please return it to me.
The grading
scale for this course is as follows:
90-100% = A
80-89% = B
70-79% = C
Below 70% = Fail
You are encouraged to communicate with me. I am available as an instructor, facilitator, and mentor to assist you in meeting your goals for this course. Primarily, communication is through email. However, I am also available for conversation by telephone if you would like. Please keep my email address handy so that you can contact me whenever necessary. If at any time during this course you change your email address, please notify me immediately.
There is a paper required for this course. It is required that you write about what you have learned from the textbook and how you would like to relate what you have learned to your career. The requirements for the paper are as follows:
1). Cover page, with your name, course number and title, and title of paper.
2). A minimum of 10 pages.
3). 1-inch margins.
4). Double-spaced.
5). APA style format.
I, Janice DeCicco Fipp, Ed.D., currently teach graduate level courses within the Masters of Science Program in Education at Breyer State University . I hold a teaching certificate in elementary education, a master's degree in supervision and curriculum development and a doctorate in educational leadership. I have served as an elementary school teacher, a curriculum coordinator, a director of special services, a school principal and a school superintendent during my 38 year career so far. The daily challenges and pleasures, as a school administrator, regarding students, staff, parents, boards of education, state development mandates and laws keep the profession exciting and worth the effort! Our goal is to impact the success of students academically.
